Whether you are visiting Token Studio London for the first time or planning a special occasion with friends, we want to make sure you feel completely prepared and excited before you arrive. Here are answers to the questions we get asked most often about our creative workshops in Bermondsey, London Bridge.

About Our Workshops

Do I need any experience?

No experience needed at all. Every workshop at Token Studio London is designed for complete beginners. Our friendly instructors guide you through every step from start to finish, so all you need to bring is curiosity and a willingness to get creative. Whether you are trying pottery, candle making, soap making, or any of our other workshops for the very first time, you are in safe and experienced hands.

Is Token Studio suitable for complete beginners?

Yes, every single workshop we run at Token Studio London is beginner-friendly. You do not need any prior art or craft experience whatsoever. Our expert instructors have over 15 years of experience teaching guests of all abilities, from total beginners to those with some creative background. Our relaxed, welcoming atmosphere in our Bermondsey railway arch studio means everyone leaves feeling proud of what they made and eager to come back.

Is the pottery painting workshop suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. Our pottery painting workshop is one of the most popular sessions at Token Studio London, and it is perfectly suited to complete beginners. You will choose from a wide selection of ceramic pieces and paint them using our professional glazes, with full guidance from our instructors throughout. No artistic skill or experience is required — just show up and enjoy the process.

Is the Ultimate Pottery Experience suitable for beginners?

Yes! Our Ultimate Pottery Experience is designed to be enjoyed by everyone, including total beginners. You will get hands-on with both wheel throwing and pottery painting in one session. Our instructors guide you through every step, so there is nothing to worry about if you have never touched clay before. It is one of our most complete and rewarding workshops, and guests consistently say it exceeded their expectations.

Are the workshops suitable for hen parties and birthdays?

Absolutely. Hen parties, birthdays, date nights, anniversaries, and group celebrations are what we do best at Token Studio London. We welcome groups of all sizes and can accommodate private bookings for special occasions. Our BYOB policy means you can bring your own drinks and truly make the occasion your own. Contact us via WhatsApp to discuss your event, and we will help you plan something unforgettable.

How long do the workshops last?

Most workshops at Token Studio London last 90 minutes. This gives you plenty of time to create, paint, and enjoy the experience without feeling rushed. The 90 minutes include hands-on instruction, making time, and decorating or finishing your piece. Check individual workshop pages for specific durations, as some specialist sessions may vary.

Can children attend?

Children aged 5 and above are welcome to join our Little Potter’s Wheel Experience, where one child and one adult share a wheel in a safe and fun environment. All BYOB workshops are strictly for adults aged 18 and over only. Family-friendly sessions are clearly marked on our booking page.

What should I wear or bring?

We provide absolutely everything you need for your workshop — all materials, tools, aprons, and expert guidance are included. We do ask that guests bring their own reusable cup or glass for their drinks, as we are committed to reducing single-use plastic at Token Studio London. For clothing, we recommend wearing something you do not mind getting a little messy, particularly for pottery workshops, as clay and glazes have a way of finding their way onto clothes. Wear comfortable clothes with short sleeves if possible, tie long hair back, and wear closed-toe shoes for safety around our pottery wheels and equipment.

Can I buy a gift voucher for Token Studio?

Yes! Token Studio London gift cards are available directly on our website and make a brilliant present for anyone who loves creative experiences in London. They can be used towards any workshop, including pottery, candle making, soap making, lipstick making, stained glass, mosaic, and more. Gift cards are delivered digitally and can be purchased at any time.

BYOB — Drinks & Celebrations

What does BYOB mean?

BYOB means Bring Your Own Bottle. You are welcome to bring wine, beer, prosecco, or whatever you enjoy drinking while you create. Just make sure to bring your own reusable cup or glass, as we are committed to reducing single-use plastic at Token Studio London. We can provide disposable cups if needed, but we would love your help in keeping our studio as eco-friendly as possible.

What drinks can I bring? Is there a limit?

Token Studio is fully BYOB — you are welcome to bring wine, prosecco, beer, soft drinks, or whatever you enjoy. There is no strict limit on what you bring, but we do ask that all guests drink responsibly and remain considerate of others in the studio. We want everyone to have a brilliant time, and we reserve the right to manage the session if alcohol consumption becomes disruptive. Most of our guests bring a bottle or two to share and have a wonderful, relaxed time — it is all part of what makes Token Studio special.

Can I bring birthday decorations, cake, or food?

Absolutely! Many of our guests are celebrating birthdays, hen parties, or special occasions, and you are very welcome to bring decorations, cake, snacks, and refreshments to make it memorable. If you are expecting a food or drink delivery during your session — whether that is a birthday cake, a food order, or anything else — our studio staff are happy to receive it on your behalf and bring it through to you while you are creating. Just let us know in advance so we can look out for it.

Booking Policy

Why does Token Studio have a booking policy?

At Token Studio, our booking policy exists to protect everyone — our customers just as much as our studio.

When you book a session with us, you are reserving a carefully planned creative experience. Our tutors prepare in advance, materials are laid out, and every session is designed to flow from start to finish. A clear booking policy ensures that experience is never compromised — for you or for anyone else in the room.

We have been running creative workshops and working in hospitality for over 15 years. In that time, we have had the joy of welcoming thousands of wonderful guests, and the overwhelming majority leave happy, inspired, and already planning their next visit. Honestly, 99.9% of our customers are an absolute pleasure to host.

But experience has also taught us that without clear boundaries, a small number of situations can affect everyone in the room. Whether that is a late arrival disrupting a session in full flow, or on rare occasions someone behaving unreasonably towards our staff — we have a responsibility to step in. Our team works incredibly hard to create a safe, joyful, and welcoming space, and we will always act to protect that — including involving the authorities if anyone’s behaviour becomes threatening or abusive, without hesitation.

Our policies are not there to be difficult. They are there so that when you walk through our doors, the atmosphere is exactly what it should be — positive, creative, and relaxed. We want every single person to have the best possible time, and these boundaries are what make that consistently possible.

Thank you for respecting our policies. We genuinely cannot wait to create something beautiful with you.

— The Token Studio Team

Can I reschedule my booking?

Yes — rescheduling is free if you do so more than 48 hours before your session. You do not even need to contact us; simply use the rescheduling link or button in your original booking confirmation email and you can change your date instantly. We always recommend booking ahead and planning your visit in advance. Please note that bookings made within 48 hours of the session cannot be rescheduled, and last-minute urgent bookings are non-transferable.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

All bookings at Token Studio are fully paid online at the time of booking. There are no deposits — just full payment upfront, which keeps things simple for everyone.

Is there a minimum number of people required to book?

Not at all. As long as there are available spaces in a session, you are welcome to book whether you are coming solo, as a pair, or as a large group. We are happy to accommodate everyone.

Can you accommodate large groups of over 20 people?

Each of our regular sessions has a maximum capacity of 20 spaces. If your group is larger than 20, no problem — simply get in touch with us directly and we will arrange an expanded session to accommodate your whole group. We regularly host large celebrations, corporate events, and private parties, so just reach out and we will make it work.

What happens if I arrive late?

Our sessions start on time, and we are unable to delay the start for late arrivals — this ensures the best experience for everyone in the studio. We do have a 15-minute grace period, so if you arrive within 15 minutes of the start time, you will still be welcomed in.

If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, we unfortunately cannot allow entry. At that point the session is already underway, and joining would interrupt the tutor and be unfair on guests who arrived on time. For safety and quality reasons, late entry beyond 15 minutes is not possible.

If you realise you are going to be more than 15 minutes late, we strongly recommend contacting us as soon as possible so we can help you reschedule for another session. We always advise planning your journey — check your route, allow extra time, and aim to arrive a few minutes early so you can settle in before the fun begins.

Collecting Your Finished Pottery

When will my pottery be ready to collect?

Fired pottery pieces are ready for collection in approximately 2 weeks after your session. This is because each piece goes through a careful drying and kiln firing process at 1200 degrees to bring out its true colour and strength. You will receive an email notification when your piece is ready, and you can then book a collection appointment by emailing pickup@tokenstudio.co.uk. Please note that pieces must be collected within 60 days.

How do I collect my finished pottery?

Once your pottery has been fired in the kiln and you have received your collection notification, please book a collection appointment before coming in — do not just drop by without one.

Here is why: at any given time, Token Studio has hundreds — often thousands — of pieces moving through our studio, kiln, storage, and warehouse. Keeping every single piece safe, organised, and accounted for is a highly coordinated operation that runs around the clock. When you book a collection appointment in advance, our team can locate your specific pieces, prepare them carefully, and have them waiting at reception so you can collect quickly and safely the moment you arrive.

If you turn up without an appointment, we genuinely cannot guarantee we will be able to locate your pieces quickly, and handling items without preparation increases the risk of damage. Your finished pottery matters to us just as much as it does to you — and we want it to reach your hands in perfect condition.

To book your collection appointment, simply email: pickup@tokenstudio.co.uk

Please include your name, the date of your session, and a photo of your piece if you have one, and we will get everything ready for you.
