Discover the calming art of Japanese ceramics and create your own handmade matcha bowl on the pottery wheel 🌿✨

Inspired by traditional Japanese tea culture and modern matcha café aesthetics, this immersive BYOB pottery experience invites you to our Bermondsey studio near London Bridge to slow down, get your hands muddy, and craft a truly personal ceramic matcha bowl from raw clay.

At Token Studio London, pottery is all about creativity, connection, and experience. In this beginner-friendly wheel throwing workshop, you’ll learn how to throw your own authentic-style matcha bowl on the pottery wheel before painting and decorating it in the very same session.

No experience needed — just come ready to create.

🍵 WHAT YOU’LL MAKE

Using traditional wheel throwing techniques, you’ll shape your own ceramic matcha bowl from clay and decorate it with glazes and colours inspired by Japanese pottery traditions, earthy textures, and contemporary café culture.

Think:
✨ Organic handmade forms
✨ Soft earthy glazes
✨ Wabi-sabi inspired textures
✨ Japanese tea ceremony aesthetics
✨ Modern matcha café vibes
✨ Functional ceramics made by you

Every bowl turns out completely unique — full of character and handmade charm.

🎨 WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE WORKSHOP?

• Learn beginner-friendly wheel throwing techniques
• Create your own ceramic matcha bowl on the pottery wheel
• Trim and refine the shape with guidance from our artists
• Paint and glaze your bowl during the same session
• Explore textures, brushwork, carving, or minimalist finishes
• Relax in our cosy art-filled, plant-filled London studio

This workshop combines traditional pottery skills with creative freedom, making it perfect whether you want a calming mindful activity or a fun creative night out.

🍃 A MODERN TAKE ON TRADITIONAL CERAMICS

Japanese matcha bowls are known for their natural forms, imperfections, and individuality. Rather than aiming for factory-perfect symmetry, this workshop celebrates handmade beauty and artistic expression.

Whether you love matcha culture, Japanese interiors, pottery, or simply trying something new, this experience gives you the chance to create a ceramic piece you’ll actually use and treasure.

✨ MAKE & PAINT IN ONE SESSION

Unlike many pottery workshops, you’ll both throw and decorate your bowl in the same experience — giving you the full creative process in one relaxing session.

After the workshop, you’ll have the option to add our professional firing service for £10 per item. This includes transparent glazing and kiln-firing to make your handmade matcha bowl food-safe, lead-free, dishwasher-friendly, and ready for your future matcha rituals at home 🍵
